Liddy Berman, Director
Liddy began her work in the art world at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. in 2005, where she joined the team arranging special exhibitions and sponsorships. From there she moved to the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, where she continued her work on exhibition funding and sponsorships. In 2008, she moved to New York to curate and reorganize the former AIG art collection after the dissolution of that company’s assets. She founded Eleusis Art Advisory in 2009. Since then, she has provided in-depth art market analysis, curation, and collection management services to numerous private clients and corporations including Highstar Capital, The Marwood Group, Cassidy Turley Commercial Real Estate, Ogilvy Worldwide/WPP, CORE Group Real Estate, and the United Technologies Corporation. Berman serves on the Acquisitions Committee of the Young Collectors’ Council at the Guggenheim Museum (New York), the Advisory Council for the American Friends of the Louvre’s Young Patrons Circle, and Independent Curators International’s Independents. Berman is an arts contributor for Architectural Digest, Departures Magazine, among other publications. She earned her B.A. in Art History at the University of Virginia.
Max Whitney, Deputy Director
Max began his career in the South Asian Art Department at Sotheby’s. He immersed himself in the study of northern Indian arts and culture at the School of International Training, where he focused on ancient techniques of miniature painting and how to authenticate these works. He further developed his strong sense of design through his work in jewelry crafting with the chief jeweler to the Maharaja of Jaipur. He followed his year of studies in India with a job at Fenton and Fallon (a New York-based jeweler), after which he moved to Paris to complete an intensive study of French arts and culture under the guidance of Dr. Fiona Fawkes. Max specializes in cultivating and building a collection of art that is more than sculptures, paintings, or photographs. Not just objects, Max believes a collection of art represents the culmination of a lifetime. He approaches each client from the perspective that their collection should be their own and that no two collections are, or should be, alike. Trends and fads are not, Max believes, how art should be collected, nor is there one approach to cultivating a collection. He specializes in finding not just the right piece for a collector, but the right way to find that piece. Additionally, Max takes delight in not only helping clients amass important collections, but also in discovering affordable art for children, teenagers, young adults, as wedding presents and for secondary homes. Recently, Max has begun to explore Contemporary Asian art with the intention of seeing and helping clients to access the opening markets, the burgeoning shift in cultural landscapes and the juxtaposition of a new voices from an old world and tradition. Max earned a B.A. in Art History at Sarah Lawrence College.
